  • “I love the days when it shines, whoa let it shine”

After a fairly slow summer due to personal trips, work and social events…I had two photo shoots back to back this past weekend! Along with editing Behind the Scene photos from The Laundronauts’ new music video and organizing a print sale! I have also started the process of adding more of my film photographs to the galleries! Film is something I will always shoot and always be excited to display. Look out for film shots being added to “Misc

    Summer with Tedi

The start to my weekend was a photo shoot with Tedi, who is just starting her modeling career. I took her first modeling portraits for her, and it’s a pleasure to work with her again! The talented Make-up Artist/Hair Dresser Ben Shum did her make-up for this photo shoot, Tedi did her own hair and I choose the wardrobe/make-up/hair.

We went to the lovely Glendale Gardens & Woodland for the shoot, where they happened to have a wedding going on in part of the Garden! It was a beautiful wedding and sparked some “Wedding Crashers” style jokes. The gardens are thankfully large enough that we were able to avoid the wedding for the entire shoot, minus entering and leaving the gardens. It was a nice place to shoot as there were not a lot of people around “spectating”.

    Diana and Chica

My second shoot this weekend was with my long time friend, Diana, and her horse Chica! Diana has been a huge Canucks fan and a horseback rider for as long as I can remember; she’s won a lot of ribbons over the years with her horse Chica! Despite having known Diana since the 1st grade, this was our first official photo shoot together, while I did snap her photo a lot last year when we were roommates..it wasn’t the same. Haha.

Chica is up for sale for the time being so Diana can focus on school and this was a great chance to capture some memories for Diana. This was also my first photo shoot involving a live animal..a large one at that..and it was great experience! I used to help our friend with chores at the stable and I did ride for a bit, but it’s been a good number of years since I was near a horse that wasn’t in it’s stall!

I’m very happy with how the pictures turned out for this shoot and all in all glad to have been able to do this for Diana.
(Photos of Diana/Chica have been added to “Portraits -> General, and photos of just Chica have been added to “Misc)

    Behind the Scenes: The Laundronauts

On August 8th I was given the chance to take some Behind the Scene shots during the filming of the new Laundronauts‘ music video. I have to say that Behind the Scenes shooting is a lot of fun and this was another fun experience. I wasn’t able to stay the whole time, which was disappointing, but being “on set” is always interesting regardless!

The video was shot by Darryl LeCraw from “Skit for Brains” and Que Banh, “The Photography Elf“.

    I turn my camera on…

Phew! It’s been a busy July for me. I apology for not updating the blog or the website much.

I’m loving my new website, which was created by Ryan Doco who happens to also be an extremely talented Photographer from Vancouver, and my wordpress as you will notice now matches! Jason from West Coast Design Co. completed my blog for me! I have to say I’m very happy with the results of both projects and with the two who made it happen; it’s beneficial to contract work to local artists! I have added some new pages and changed a few things around on the website, let me know what you think!

    _______

On July 8th I was able to participate in a great new event called Five Hole For Food, which was started by Richard Loat, and over 10days covered Ontario to BC! This street hockey event raised 5915lbs of food for local food banks; Victoria raised 956lbs of food and came in second to Vancouver’s winning 3,000lbs!

It was an extremely hot day, but there was a great turn out despite the heat wave! Even Marty the Marmot from the Salmon Kings made it out to play! I can’t say I was jealous of his outfit, but it was inspiring to see him out supporting a good cause despite the heat!!

For an event that was put together in an extremely short amount of time, Richard and his crew did a great job. Can’t wait until next year, we’ll kick Vancouver’s butt! Hehe.

    _______

This past weekend I got to participate in a group shoot at Albert Head Lagoon, organized by Que the Photography Elf, and it was loads of fun! Got to meet some great models and photographers, and work with some I already knew! I’m already getting excited for the next group shooting adventure and it hasn’t even been organized yet! I don’t want to toot my own horn, but I love the shots I got! I hope you enjoy them as well!

On Thursday I am privileged to go on a photo adventure with Que the Photography Elf and can’t wait to show you the results! It will be good times for sure!

    Photo contests?! Yay!

Monday Magazine has announced it’s 10th annual Photo Contest and once again I will be entering. I only placed in 2007 and have only entered once since then, so I’m hoping this will be a lucky year for me! As well The Nature Trust of BC has announced their annual Photo Contest. I highly recommend any amateur interested in showing their work enter one or both of these contests!

    • Stephanie (Portraits – Headshots)
    • Cristina (Portraits – Models)
    • Sandi (Portraits – Models)

    Cheers,

    Natalie
