Last night I was one of two photographers volunteering with the Victoria Film Festival to cover their Pre-Festival Bash. The bash, which took place at the Island FX Industrial Studios on John Street, was the program launch for their 2010 Festival attended by local “celebrities” and just some very lucky Film buffs! Food was provided by Sauce Restaurant & Lounge and Driftwood Brewery provided the refreshments, “Reel” beer which was created just for the VFF event!
Adam Sawatsky from A Channel hosted the event and ran a 106 second version of the Olympic Torch Relay, showcasing the VFF iPhone Application & the Program Guide! Prizes were drawn, which included passes to the festival, “suvival” items like dental floss for after all that popcorn, and even some prizes from The Zone/The Q! For the FilmCan entries, Christina Robillard won the junior category(Sony HD Handycam in), and Emma-Lynn Whitman won in the senior category(iMac w/ Final Cut Express software). I have to say, even though I have an iMac..I was pretty jealous of the prize Emma-Lynn won from Soho Computers!
All in all, good time all around. I even managed to get out with one of the snazzy pink USB drives they were giving way which has an interactive program guide and the iPhone app(now I wish I had gotten one! Oh well, it’s my 2010 investment!)!
Photographs will be on the website soon, in their own fancy VFF 2010 gallery, but until then they are viewable on the When Shutters Click FB Fanpage!
Happy New Years everyone! I hope you had a joyus and safe time!!
I’ve made up a list of New Years Resolutions as most people have, and my #1 is: Take more pictures. Hopefully I will be able to forfill this resolution as I’ve been slacking the last couple of months! I won’t lie, my work and personal lives have been quite busy which hasn’t given me a lot of time to focus on photography. I’ll be working on that in 2010 though!!
I went to Vancouver, Port Moody to be exact, for Christmas this year and while there was able to get out for some photography between spending time with family and some of my friends in Vancouver. I have uploaded photographs into the “Street & Things” and “Nature & Animals” gallery sections. I hope you do like them!
I recently purchased a Nikon D90, as a Christmas present for myself, and can honestly say I love this camera! While my Nikon D70 served me well, the upgrades with the D90 are amazing! Not only does it allow me to shoot double exposures in the camera, which you’ll see I used quite a bit in my recent uploads, but it also takes much more crisp photographs. Even less post-editing work for me too do than before! I love that, as I try to do as little post-work as possible. I’d rather get it right in camera, than have to spend hours getting the photograph to look how I intended. I don’t have time to waste doing that!
Anyways, a quick little update from me. I look forward to more having more photographs to show you soon! I will most likely be making a trip to Vancouver at the end of January for a maternity photo shoot and hopefully I’ll be setting up a few shoots over the next few weekends.
Cheers,
Natalie
